Ah, sorry, schoolwork has been overwhelming lately so I haven't had much time to blog.
Anyhow, RottenTomatoes.com forum poster Meier started a thread about how, on "Black Friday" this year (the day after American Thanksgiving), Wal-Mart will be selling the Nintendo GameCube with a disk of 4 classic Legend of Zelda games for just $79.44 American. I don't know if Wal-Mart will be doing a similar sale in Canada, but, I gotta say, that is just so damn tempting a way to spend "Buy Nothing Day", buying something nice for yourself at Wal-Mart, the store which any self-respecting anti-Capitalist (whom usually refer to themselves as "anti-consumerists" just to blur their agenda slightly) who thinks himself as being better than all us "mindless consumerist zombies" loves to hate.
Well, I can't quite afford it, though I may well put a GameCube on my Christmas list this year. My official "Buy Something Nice for Yourself and Piss Off a Communist Day" purchase will likely be the DVD of the anime film Millenium Actress from Satoshi Kon (which I was lucky enough to see the world premiere of at Fantasia in 2001). I am planning on purchasing it at Metro Video (in the old Simpson's building, below the Paramount cinema) at 4 p.m. sharp. If it's "sold out", then I shall walk up to HMV and purchase it there. If it's "sold out" there too, or, if Donovan King or any other self-proclaimed "anti-consumerist" gets the brilliant idea of hiding every copy of Millenium Actress in order to thwart my buying something on "Buy Nothing Day", there are plenty of other anime DVDs I would like to purchase which I won't name, so, in that circumstance, I will just buy one of those and put Millenium Actress on my Christmas list.
I may write some special articles for "Buy Something Nice for Yourself and Piss Off a Communist Day" week, but I can't promise anything; it depends on how much work I have to do.
