NORMAN McLAREN'S GUNDAM?

Submitted for your approval: a "live-action" version of a mecha battle from Mobile Suit Gundam that seems to have been done at some point in the 1980s by a handful of Japanese film students, who stand-in for the anthropomorphic mecha (giant robot) units using a combinaton of human stop-motion animation very reminiscent of the pioneering Scottish-Canadian animator Norman McLaren film Neighbours (down to the "flying", which is an obvious homage) mixed in with some imaginative film scratching. I like how they use a tripod to represent the shoulder-mounted cannons.

Hmm... now I can see how ADV Films could shoot live-action Evangelion on a more realistic budget.

Hat tip to Loran Cehack.
